Merry Christmas! (a day late)

OK, I meant to post yesterday, but the day got away from me.  I think it was mostly due to the five hours I spent assembling a doll house puzzle that some crazy-lady-who-will-not-be-named (ahem… T… ahem) got J for Christmas.  Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone… hope you had a wonderful day!

First off, I wanted to post a copy of our 2008 “Vital Statistics” Christmas letter in case anyone’s was lost in the mail.  You can get to it by clicking on the nativity picture above.  We really enjoyed reading all those sent to us this year!  Your families are all growing too fast. :)

One more thing before I go.  Casting Crowns has a song that I have loved listening to these past couple seasons, called While You Were Sleeping.  You can listen to it by heading to this Youtube video.  The theme of the song is that Jesus came down to the earth in the middle of the night, to a small village, while everyone was sleeping… not paying attention… and they didn’t even have room for Him.  Here’s the chorus:

Oh Bethlehem, what you have missed while you were sleeping
For God became a man
And stepped into your world today
Oh Bethlehem, you will go down in history
As a city with no room for its King
While you were sleeping
While you were sleeping

The best part about the song is that they don’t stop there.  They apply it to us… today.  What would we do if Jesus had come to us?  Would we be sleeping, too?  I think we would.  How much room is still in our hearts during the holiday season for Jesus?  It seems our society is getting better and better at filling us with the things that don’t matter, while shoving Jesus over in the corner.  Oh, and please allow me one last soapbox moment.  Here is my favorite set of lines in the entire song.

United States of America
Looks like another silent night
As we’re sung to sleep by philosophies
That save the trees and kill the children

Speaks well of a theme of one of my previous posts.  Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone and God bless!  (And, remember what this season is all about. ;)

Regarding your comment . . . “How much room is still in our hearts during the holiday season for Jesus? It seems our society is getting better and better at filling us with the things that don’t matter, while shoving Jesus over in the corner . . . ” I’m still haunted by that statement. It really seems to be getting worse and worse — it’s all about the “Door Busters,” before, during and after holiday sales . . . rarely even use the word, “Christmas” anymore.
