“How Great…”

“…is our God… sing with me, how great… is our God.”  T, J and I hit the Chris Tomlin concert in Cedar Rapids last night (yes, I am not posting in chronological order tonight… just deal with it ;).  As with most Christian concerts we end up at, this was an awe-inspiring event.

Before I go on about the concert, I want to quickly mention how amazingly beautiful my wife and daughter are when smiling and heartily singing songs together.  I simply couldn’t stop watching them throughout the night.  Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about that sight again.

Speaking of bringing a tear to an eye, the crowd and the feeling in the atmosphere was something to behold when Chris finally got around to singing How Great is Our God.  What a beautiful song.  It’s very difficult for me to hear that song without standing up to sing, while throwing both hands up in the air to God.  Imagine several thousand doing the same, and you can hardly hear the guy who has all the speakers directing his voice.

While hitting several songs off his new CD, he spent plenty of time with oldies, including another of my favorites, Your Grace is Enough.  One of these days, I’ll write a post on Paul’s thorn.

The lead-in group to Chris was one I had never heard of before, Israel Houghton and New Breed.  This group was a ton of fun… they really got the crowd going, and turns out I’ve heard at least a couple of their songs before at church.  In fact, Israel addressed the crowd by saying probably nobody in the crowd knew them, but they’ve been writing our songs for years.  Yep, they were right.

It’s always rough to leave one of these concerts.  The feeling is so amazing when you have thousands of people like you together in one place, all focused on praising God.  You don’t want it to end.  I guess that’s why we keep going.  Which reminds me… anyone want to be contacted when we plan to hit a Christian rock concert?  Please let me know.  Our absolute favorite group is Third Day, and we usually don’t miss one of their concerts if it’s within a couple hundred miles.  In fact, if you’ve never been to one of their concerts and want to tag along, I’ll pay for your ticket.  Ok, one condition… you have to at least be someone I know.  No random web solicitations, please. :)

How great is our God! I agree – what an amazing song. I wrote about it on my blog when I was pregnant with Matthew. That song was one of the many things our great God used to sustain me through an extremely difficult time in my life. Like you, I pictured all of us who really know Him, those of us who have tasted and seen that the Lord is good in spite of the pain and temporary suffering we face on this earth, standing, arms held high praising God because we just can’t help but give Him the glory He deserves. You are right – a beautiful sight!

I absolutely love it when you talk about how much you love your wife and kids. You are a blessed man and true man of God.

    Sing with me . . .

We had our annual GEMS Sunday yesterday and we sang “How Great Is Our God”… what a wonderful, wonderful song. Occasionally we tack on “How Great Thou Art”… wow, if you want to see a medley that’ll bring tears to your eyes!!!

Anyway… glad to hear you are making it to so many concerts still. I still love and want to go, but maybe will just have to hold out till Jules is a few years older… she LOVES the music at church, but I don’t know if she could handle over an hour of it! :)

BTW… I have never been to see Tomlin. Crazy? Crazy.
