Instant Messenger notes
At work, we use Instant Messenger (I guess it’s really called Windows Communicator, though we still call it “IM”), but anyway… there is a little note field you can spend a couple hundred characters on that others can read. Some coworkers simply throw their cell phone number in there, some have their work hours, or some other useful note. Then there are those who are too lazy to do anything at all. The rest of us choose to add a favorite quote of the week or day, or whatever… some silly, some downright clever, and some perhaps more serious.
There was a time when I would add a quote from a movie on Monday and provide clues throughout the week, letting people attempt to guess the movie (without looking the quote up on IMDB.com). Last night before logging off to get to bed, I chose a serious Bible verse I thought we all should reflect upon.
2 Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy?
Isaiah 55:2a (ESV)
So I’m working along later in the afternoon today when I receive the following simple IM:
>> Atkins
I thought and thought about that, trying to figure out what my coworker was saying, and finally gave up. He responded with:
>> Isaiah 55:2a1
I didn’t realize he was “answering” my IM note. Funny guy, LOL. :)
Whether you get it or not, just go back to reflecting on the real meaning behind the verse. We aren’t talking about carbs, after all. ;)

No… maybe not directly talking about carbs… BUT… that verse does speak to what we are truly craving… and it isn’t always WHAT we should be craving that gets us in trouble… and we are made to crave God. We are made with a longing… that “empty” part of ourselves that we constantly try to fill up… but so often we fill with the wrong things. Again… God created that “void” within us so that we would yearn to fill it for Him. I am reading an amazing book right now (consequently, “Made to Crave”) that is pointed most towards food “addiction”, but is a response to craving ANYTHING but God and how to fight that battle and win (through prayer, Scripture, etc.).
Funny that you posted this tonight, because this craving business has been heavy on my heart lately and a friend introduced me to the book just earlier this week.
As said… I know that’s not necessarily where you were going with this… just a lot of things all clicking together in my brain and I needed to comment. ;)

Atkins, thats priceless (i’m guessing it was Jake?) On a serious note, I read that message multiple times this week, thanks for sharing that daily reminder.
